Steve Smith is not a politician. He’s a proven professional with decades of real-world experience in law, governance, and standing firm for conservative values.
A third-generation North Idahoan and a life-long constitutional conservative, Steve has been practicing law in Sandpoint for 47 years. He has provided legal counsel for numerous local governments, public entities, and individuals from all walks of life; always with integrity, precision, and a deep respect for the law.
Steve and his wife, Yulanda, have 5 children and 4 grandchildren.
He’s represented cities, fire and water districts, sewer boards, and individuals from all walks of life, always with integrity, precision, and a deep respect for the law. When you elect Steve Smith, you’re not just electing someone who agrees with your traditional American values—you’re also electing someone who knows how to get the job done right.
Steve won’t be learning on the job. He’s been in the trenches for decades. He knows how to run meetings that are productive, make decisions that hold up under legal scrutiny, and lead with confidence, not chaos.
Mistakes here cost taxpayers dearly—just ask Bonner County residents who’ve paid for lawsuits caused by past commissioners who ignored or were careless about the rules.
Steve has served in a variety of roles including:
When he deals with county ordinances, his role is legislative.
When he deals with hearings that result in decisions, his role is judicial.
When he deals with providing and paying for county services to the public, his role is executive.
For the most part, a commissioner’s work for you is technical. It’s administrative. It requires a deep understanding of legal code, regulations, and procedure.
Steve’s decisions are rooted in a Biblical worldview, informed by the Idaho and U.S. Constitutions, and guided by timeless principles of liberty, morality, and limited government.
We live in a time when rights are eroded quietly through bad process, poor planning, and unchecked bureaucracy. In Bonner County, we need someone with the wisdom and backbone to stand in the gap and restore clarity, order, and conservative leadership.
